Picture This Response

We've received four sets of pictures (three official, one unofficial) of our Island Boy since our referral in early May. Although the first two sets of pictures created a great sense of joy in us, the more recent photos have not produced the same feelings.

Instead, looking at the pictures made me realize how much bigger he is getting in an orphanage instead of with us. That just can't be right for anyone.

So there you have it, update photos make me angry. From my very small and statistically insignificant sampling of waiting parents, this seems like a common reaction, but I never would have guessed it.

AHHHH!! I am right there with ya sister! It's getting harder to watch my baby girl turn to toddler girl!!! I totally understand, we'll get through this. If you look back from the HAI 9 referral posts - it goes from elation at referrals back in May to all excited about travel in June and July and then August hits and well I think we have all had our fill of waiting - our kiddos need to be home NOW :)

I do find some comfort in that we are all together through this...here's hoping we get news soon, real soon before we all need committed - LOL

I remember when we received our referral for Claire, she was 18 months. I was angry that she has been waiting for us as long as we had been waiting for her. I was somewhat angry at all the milestones she was making without her mommy. I completely understand about watching someone else raise your big boy.

I wish the judge would just make a stamp that says "Approved" and just stamps all our cases and clear off his/her desk.

So sorry about excrutiating wait guys! I can completely identify with the consuming urge you feel to GO MEET YOUR BABY the second you hold that first picture. It must be incredibly hard to then have to wait and wait and wait...

Getting the picture updates when we were waiting for Lauren made me SO sad. That was the absolute worst to get the email updates from our caseworker that said "Here is your update for this month; isn't she cute?" with no court news. I feel for you!

A bit more then 2 years later, the same feeling are still being felt! Glad to see that we are not alone in feeling this way...

When they send the pictures they sign the email with:

Enjoy,

Really? Enjoy? Enjoy watching my son grow up some 5600 miles away? Enjoy in the fact he now has 6 teeth? Enjoy the fact that he's walking already? It’s hard to enjoy when you don’t know if he was held today. Did he get a chance to leave his crib today? Was he talked to?

I know you need to walk in these shoes to really know how it feels, but I think some sensitivity training is in order for many of the reps, family and friends...
